Rialto market, the heart of Venice

Rialto market is one of my favorite places in Venice. This is where we can meet the true Venetians, where we can buy  the best products (fishes, vegetables just arrived from Sant Erasmo, an island in the lagoon , ...) in a friendly atmosphere on the wharves of the Grand Canal. After the market we find ourselves in baccari (small wine bars) where we can taste the famous "chichetti" and "tramezzini" and drink local wines.

Where I go shopping

6. Cantina do Mori (wine bar)
Calle dei Do Mori, San Polo 429  tel: (0039) 0415225401
Located near the Rialto market, this wine bar exists since 1462. It offers many wines of northern Italy and among the best tramezzini (sandwiches of sliced bread) and cicchetti (small inputs such small octopus, anchovies, baccala alla vicentina , ...) of Venice. The setting is amazing, it seems that has not changed for centuries (old caldrons hanging from the ceiling , ancient counter, ageless bottles on shelves

7. Alla Ciurma (wine bar)
Calle Galeazza, 406 - San Polo. Tel. (0039) 3406863561
Marco Gasparini proposes in his bacaro in the marine atmosphere a venetian traditional cooking based on fishes and "cicchetti". His bar is frequented by the Venetians people, and I recommend it for all those who want to find an authentic place and not invaded by the tourists. Marco's specialities are scampi fried (a marvel), cod or sardines "in saor", scallops and stuffed artichokes, various crostini, ... To taste with a glass of fresh Tokay (0,9 € the glass). Fishes and fresh vegetables arrive every day from the Rialto market or island of Sant Erasmo. For me the best quality/price ratio in Venice.

To arrive at Rialto Market, you can take vaporetto line 1, or walk and cross Rialto bridge.
