Taxi boats
Even they are expensive, it is the fastest and the most comfortable way to join your apartment. From the airport, you can be within half an hour for your destination in the heart of Venice, because in most of the cases, these taxis-boats can deposit you in front of your apartment. The cost may be between 120 and 160 € for a route airport-center Venice, but if you are 8 on board, it will thus cost you between 15 and 20€ by person. And the assurance of an unforgettable arrival to Venice!

You can reserve on this site http://www.motoscafivenezia.it/eng/ or to go directly when you arrive to the landing stage of taxis boats;  it is necessary to go on foot there, between 10 and 15 minutes walking (red line on the map)

My favorite restaurants in Venice and lagune

Venice in terms of restaurants, like all great cities, can harbor the best and the worst. Avoid restaurants too closed to San Marco, those that display menus written in 5 languages, those with a reel outside the restaurant, empty ones. Of course the list below may reflect our personal tastes (inventive and traditional Venetian cuisine as well).
I do not include expensive restaurants (Quadri, Metropolis, restaurants of great hotels like the Gritti or Monaco, or those frequented by celebs like Da Ivo -cantine of Clooney-, Da Frantz whose prices are too high. ..).
This list will be updated continuously according to our findings, some will be removed, others put on stand-by for re-evaluation, others will take place and I hope many.
Because unlike a misconception, you can eat very well in Venice. Provided flee guides like Tripadvisor or other websites born to try to glean some euros with advertising.
Everyone can leave an opinion on this post, recommend a place he loved, to share their good or bad experiences. Enjoy your meal!

The "bacari" (wine bars) in Venice

The bacaro (plural : bacari) is a typical bar, small, friendly, offering products of Venetian cuisine such tramezzini (sandwiches with shrimp, crabmeat, tuna and eggs, etc ... ) crostini ( small slices of bread topped with anchovies, artichokes, baccala mantecato ...) or small octopus , boiled eggs, polpete meat or fish , sardines in saor , ...
All these Venetian specialties, often to eat at the counter or on the "fondamenta" (dock along a canal) where is located the bacaro, casually be called the "cicchetti".
It is an economic and friendly way to eat like the Venetian quality cuisine .
The wine of course is the second important element of these places. Whether Prosecco, white wine or red wine, it is often the wines of the Veneto region, or from Friuli and Alto Adige. In the Venetian tradition , this glass of wine called "ombra" as it existed in an era of wine sellers on St. Mark's Square and those they had their stall at the foot of the campanile, stall they moved depending on the rotation of the sun so that their wine constantly remained in the shade, so fresh.
Other traditional drink, the spritz, compound of white wine, water of selz and of a typical alcohol like Campari, Apérol or Cynar, to which we can add an olive, or a slice of orange, ... This drink is conquering the planet.
To go round of bacari in Venice can be a merry activity.

The list of my favorite bacari :

1. Al Squero (photo above)
Fondamenta Nani, Dorsoduro 943/944. See map
tel: (0039) 335 600 7513
Internet site of Al Squero .  Destination Venice Post
Former professor, the owner of "Al Squero " decided to open there two years this "Bacaro" just opposite the famous site of San Trovaso which we can see the workers activate, build, and repair gondolas, drinking a glass of wine from the Veneto, Alto Aldige, Trentino and Friuli enjoying excellent "tramezzini", "crostini", "chicchetti" .
I love this place for its tranquility, the friendliness of its owners, the beauty of the neighborhood (Dorsoduro); this true vision of the daily venetian life. A must away from tourist areas, within walking distance of Zattere, these beautiful quays along the Giudecca canal.

2. Do Mori
Calle dei Do Mori, San Polo 429 (near the Rialto market ) See map
tel: (0039) 0415225401
Located near the Rialto market, this wine bar exists since 1462. It offers many wines of northern Italy and among the best tramezzini (sandwiches of sliced bread) and cicchetti (small inputs such small octopus, anchovies, baccala alla vicentina , ...) of Venice. The setting is amazing, it seems that has not changed for centuries (old caldrons hanging from the ceiling , ancient counter, ageless bottles on shelves, ...

3. Vino Verro
Fondamenta della Misericordia Cannaregio 2497. See map
tel: (0039) 0412750044
Quite new, this bacaro has a trendy look, the welcome is warm, the wine and cichetti are good there. On one of the nicest waterfront of Venice where the young Venetians meet them.

4. Il Paradiso Perduto
Fondamenta della Misericordia Cannaregio 2540. See map
tel: (0039) 041 720 581
Open from 11:00 to 22:00 ( closed on Tuesdays ) .
Concerts usually on Monday (jazz , world music ...)
Il Paradiso Perduto is a cult place in Venice who was born in the 80s at the initiative of young venitian students whose Venetian Maurizio Adamo, the current boss of the place. It's more than bacaro, it is also a typical restaurant (wooden tables, simple and traditional cuisine based on seafood), a concert location, ... More information on the website

Other venetian bacari :

Osteria Al Timon
fondamenta degli Ormesini 2754 Cannaregio. See plan
tel : (0039) 0415246066

Ai Promessi Sposi
Calle dell' Oca 4367 Cannaregio. See plan

Lunch in a bacari is also a very nice and inexpensive way to taste the Venetian cuisine. And you can choose restaurants only for dinner.

Rialto market, the heart of Venice

Rialto market is one of my favorite places in Venice. This is where we can meet the true Venetians, where we can buy  the best products (fishes, vegetables just arrived from Sant Erasmo, an island in the lagoon , ...) in a friendly atmosphere on the wharves of the Grand Canal. After the market we find ourselves in baccari (small wine bars) where we can taste the famous "chichetti" and "tramezzini" and drink local wines.

Where I go shopping

1. Mascari
Adress : Ruga dei Spezieri 381 S. Polo,  Tel : (0039) 041 522 9762

"Antica Drogheria Mascari" is the oldest food speciality store in the historic center of Venice. They have all you need (all spices, all kinds of chocolates, spirits from around the world, 800 wine labels, olive oil, condiments, italian gastronomic specialities,..

2. Fruits and vegetables

3. Fishes and seefoods

The best place in Venice to buy italian cheeses (and sometimes french ones), hams and "charcuteries",... See internet site

6. Cantina do Mori (wine bar)
Calle dei Do Mori, San Polo 429  tel: (0039) 0415225401
Located near the Rialto market, this wine bar exists since 1462. It offers many wines of northern Italy and among the best tramezzini (sandwiches of sliced bread) and cicchetti (small inputs such small octopus, anchovies, baccala alla vicentina , ...) of Venice. The setting is amazing, it seems that has not changed for centuries (old caldrons hanging from the ceiling , ancient counter, ageless bottles on shelves

7. Alla Ciurma (wine bar)
Calle Galeazza, 406 - San Polo. Tel. (0039) 3406863561
Marco Gasparini proposes in his bacaro in the marine atmosphere a venetian traditional cooking based on fishes and "cicchetti". His bar is frequented by the Venetians people, and I recommend it for all those who want to find an authentic place and not invaded by the tourists. Marco's specialities are scampi fried (a marvel), cod or sardines "in saor", scallops and stuffed artichokes, various crostini, ... To taste with a glass of fresh Tokay (0,9 € the glass). Fishes and fresh vegetables arrive every day from the Rialto market or island of Sant Erasmo. For me the best quality/price ratio in Venice.

To arrive at Rialto Market, you can take vaporetto line 1, or walk and cross Rialto bridge.
